make art blog hop

hi there and welcome to the Make Art blog hop featuring art from
the e-team and special guest, wendy vecchi!
we're delighted to have wendy joining us today,
to not only share her products but also to share in her unique artistic style
and to be inspired by each of the hop participants.
i was super excited to get the floral art parts from kim.
i've never had the opportunity to work with any of Wendy's products until now.
WOW, was i blown away with the quality!
they are not just chipboard but sturdy pieces of wood.
as i was painting them, i began to think of them more as a sugar cookie.
they are even the same width as the cookies my mom made for me as a little girl!
I decided to make a little frame, I guess it's more like
a shadow box frame using the back of a little canvas.
first i covered the edges of the canvas with paper from echo park
and inked up the paper with a some tea dye.
for my "cookie", i painted the flower and stem using my studio paints.
and then i got creative, by breaking out my cake decorating tools,
using some modeling paste and decorating!
while the paste was still soft, i added some little beads.
a little charm, vintage linen pieces and last but not least,
in my stash of vintage jewelry, i found this earing and voila.....
a sweet little framed piece of art with my grandaughter in it!

now for the surprises!

  2. Even the way you decorated the flower petals reminds me of the way we used to decorate cookies with the little silver balls! And always piled on way more than anyone wanted to eat!

  5. Your granddaughter is adorable. What a clever idea to use the back of a canvas to create a shadowbox. This flower does look like an elegant cookie with the "icing" and the vintage earring. The little fabric tie and heart charm are sweet! Love the sentiment you added.

  8. I never thought about likening the Art Parts to bare cookies just screaming for 'icing'! Hmmm...you've got me thinking. Nice job on the frame!

And OMG that is pure genius....cake decorating tools and modeling paste. Woohoo, now I can dig my cake decor tools out and know what to use them on. (Yeah, friend talked me into a cake decorating class a couple of years ago- 1st and last cake class :-)
    Gorgeous.

  21. I'm amazed that, with the size of the flower, you've still managed to complement the photo of your granddaughter rather than compete with it. Not sure I could do the same -- way to go!
